Day 6 of Bruce's Recovery

August 08, 2009

Today was a good day for my dad! He amazes us with the conversations that he is beginning to have with everyone who comes to see him. It doesn't matter if its small talk or a long conversation, he is doing great with communicating what he wants, sees, thinks and feels.

Don't let his state fool you, he still has his sense of humor and makes it known :).

His appetite is up and with every bite for dinner, he told me what he wanted next. Making it easy to feed him and funny because he definitely made a point to tell me that it was good! At one point he told me that the cafeteria food was "tolerable". My husband Tim and I got a kick out of that one!

I told him that I built a blog for him and he went crazy. Then I told him that I wanted to take some pictures of him to put on the blog and he said "that would be great!" So, I have my dad's stamp of approval.

His day was filled with a lot of visitors and he had lots of naps in between. But we saw for one of the first times, my dads' beautiful eyes open and stay open long enough to carry on conversation. It was at point's like this that it seemed like he never had a stroke. And at others, it was a reminder of the journey he has ahead of him for his recovery. At the end of today, I left the hospital reminded of how special he is and what progress he has made. When I kissed my dad's head good night, I told him this, "Dad, I am so proud of you and I love you with my whole heart. I look forward to being there for you, helping you, taking care of you, and watching you get all better." I am reminded by this situation to never take anyone for granite and to love unconditionally no matter what. Life is too short and precious not to.

Sleeping the day away!

Resting and enjoying it!

Snoring, which is now his favorite thing to do.

Waking up after a long nap.
