Day 11 of Bruce's Recovery

August 14, 2009

With any journey there are little bumps in the road. Over the past 48 hours, my dad had a couple of those little bumps. On Wednesday night my dad was moved from ICU and transferred to the fifth floor where he was expected to continue with his recovery in a less structured atmosphere. But as time passed, my dad became very tired, less talkative, congested, and showed signs of an infection. This evening, the doctors have decided to move him back to ICU where he will be watched more closely and given more attention to his special needs.

It was hard to see him so helpless and almost scared tonight. It was as though he was frightened by his surroundings and unable to tell us how he was feeling. But as the evening passed, my mom, Aunt Cathy and myself saw him do a 360. He was smiling, trying to talk to us, and enjoying his new room. I even brushed his teeth and he really enjoyed it! Grinning from cheek to cheek. I tucked him in, kissed him good night, and knew that he was back in good hands. I'm not too sure what happened on the 5th floor but tonight I can sleep good knowing that the ICU staff is taking the best care possible of my dad.

I am reminded to put my trust in God to take care of him, protect him, and be in control of this terrifying situation. I never expected this to happen to my dad and it's hard to sit back and watch my father that I love so much, lay in that hospital bed so helpless. Please pray for him tonight. Pray for his healing, recovery, and precious life.

God Bless all of you!

  1. Jenny this is great. We can see how Bruce is doing now that we are back home in PA. Sorry we didn't get the chance to meet you. Don and your parents have been friends since high school, infact your Mom dated Don in her high school years. Your Dad is a great person, he's a fighter, he will get well. Don told him the last day we visited him. "Don't let Teddy Toe Tag in your room!" It was something that Don joked about when your Dad talked Don in getting SSI. (In case you are wondering, Teddy Toe Tag is when they put a tag on your toe when you pass away). Don told him to chase him away and not let him in his door. Tell you Dad again, that Don Kemmerer said Don't let Teddy Toe Tag in his room. Keep up the good work on updating everyone. We're looking forward to seeing him up and about again soon. Love, Bev & Don Kemmerer
